How to Create Textured Look for Hair?
Texture, porosity and elasticity are important factors to analyze the quality of the hair.
. Hair texture refers to the degree of coarseness or fineness of the hair, which varies due to the diameter of the hair (coarse hair has a large diameter as compared to fine hair), feel of the hair, whether it is harsh, soft or wiry.
. Hair porosity refers to the ability of all types of hair to absorb moisture.
Usually hair with good or moderate porosity presents no problem when receiving hair services i.e. permanent waving, hair tinting or lightening.
Poor porosity exists when the cuticle layer is lying close to the hair shaft and absorbs very less amount of moisture.
Extreme porosity is observed in hair in poor condition due to tinting, lightening or damage from faulty treatments.
. Hair elasticity refers to the ability of hair to stretch and return to its original form without breaking.
Hair elasticity can be classified in three categories i.e. good elasticity, normal elasticity and poor elasticity.
Normal dry hair is capable of being stretched about 20 percent of its length. Wet hair can be stretched 40 to 50 percent of its length. Porous hair stretches more than hair with poor porosity.
Climatic conditions and seasonal changes affect hair in the following ways:
1. Humidity and moisture deepen the natural wave.
2. Cool air causes the hair to contract.
3. Heat causes the hair to swell or expand and absorb moisture.
