Structure of HairThe structure of the hair is composed of cells arranged in three layers as explained below:
Hair is distributed all over the body, except on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, lips and eyelids. There are usually three types of hair on the body: 1. Long hair : which protect the scalp against the sun's rays and injury, giving adornment to the head and form a pleasing frame for the face. Soft, long hair grows in the armpits of both sexes and on the face of men. 2. Short (or brastly) hair: are present on the eyebrows and eyelashes, and add beauty and color to the face. They protect the eyes from dust particles and divert sweat from the eyes. 3. Lanugo: are fine, soft, downy hair on the cheeks, forehead and other parts of the body. They help in the evaporation of perspiration. The hair can be analyzed in determining the condition by sight, touch, hearing and smell. . Sight: gives immediate observation about its condition. It contributes about 15 percent to its analysis. . Touch: which guides a cosmetologist in judging a professional hair analysis. . Hearing: which gives a cosmetologist an accurate condition of the hair while listening to what clients tell about the health problem, reaction to the cosmetics and medications they might be taking. . . Smell: unclean hair and scalp disorders often create an odor, which can be easily observed by a cosmetologist. |
